Inspired by actual events, Amexico is a murder mystery about America’s most recent arrivals residing in an illegal migrant camp in the foothills of Southern California. The chief protagonist and narrative voice, Evelia Dominguez, arrives to the U.S. as a temporary housemaid for the Muehlhaus family. She becomes witness to their murders by an unknown group of killers, and must continue building her new life after the trauma of these events. Evelia’s brother, Alejandro, also a migrant, endures his own tragedy as he navigates American street life and the dangers that come with it. The film shares experiences of love, success, sorrow and camp survival in a new world, providing a sympathetic view of migrant struggle in America.
